Elymas

Elymas, also known as Bar-Jesus, was a Jewish magician and false prophet encountered by the apostle Paul during his first missionary journey, as recorded in Acts 13. He served as an advisor to Sergius Paulus, the Roman proconsul of Cyprus, but actively opposed Paul and Barnabas, attempting to turn the official away from the Christian faith. Paul confronted Elymas sharply, rebuking him for deceit and opposing the truth, and Elymas was temporarily struck blind as a sign of God’s authority. This event led Sergius Paulus to believe the gospel, demonstrating the triumph of God’s power over deception. Elymas’ story serves as a warning against resisting truth and misusing spiritual influence for personal gain.
