Session Four: “Do you believe?” – From Sight to Worship

Thrown out of the synagogue, the man is found by Jesus. His journey culminates not just in physical sight but in spiritual sight: “Lord, I believe,” and he worships Him. This session helps participants explore true discipleship—moving from awareness to belief, from healing to worship—and asks how pride can keep us blind to truth.

Transcript

John 9:35-41 – "Do you believe in the Son of Man?"
Intro:
• Last time we saw that not everyone was happy about the healing.
• Our friend the Blind Man went from rejoicing at having his sight back to being
interrogated
• And we were thinking about the difference that knowing Jesus rather than knowing about
Him makes. I wonder did this make you consider if you know Jesus or know about Him?

Main:
• The story continues:
• Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he said, “Do you
believe in the Son of Man?” “Who is he, sir?” the man asked. “Tell me so that I may
believe in him.” Jesus said, “You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with
you.” Then the man said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped him. Jesus said,
[a] “For
judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will
become blind.” Some Pharisees who were with him heard him say this and asked,
“What? Are we blind too?” Jesus said, “If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin;
but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains
• Jesus hears that the man has been thrown out and goes looking for him. Think about
that—Jesus isn’t just interested in healing bodies; He wants hearts. The miracle wasn’t
finished until the man truly saw who Jesus was.
• Physical sight is one thing—spiritual sight is another.
• Which is worse? Lack of physical sight or lack of spiritual sight? We often think that
losing one of our senses would be devastating but we don’t often consider our spiritual
sense.
• The man moves from “I don’t know who He is” to worshipping Jesus.
• The Pharisees claim they can see, but their pride keeps them blind.
Discussion Questions:
1. What’s the difference between knowing about Jesus and really seeing Him?
2. How does pride stop people from seeing the truth?
3. How has Jesus opened your eyes in your journey of faith?
