Stephen was brought before the Sanhedrin, the Jewish council, where he delivered a powerful speech recounting the history of Israel and indicting the leaders for resisting the and rejecting Jesus as the Righteous One (Acts 7:1-53). His speech demonstrated his deep knowledge of the Scriptures and his courage to confront the religious authorities.
His speech enraged the council members, leading them to drag him out of the city and stone him (Acts 7:54-58). As he was being stoned, Stephen prayed, 'Lord Jesus, receive my spirit' and 'Lord, do not hold this sin against them' (Acts 7:59-60). His final words reflected his forgiveness and faith, echoing the mercy and grace of Jesus.
