Matthias was chosen by the early believers to replace Judas Iscariot as one of the Twelve apostles following Judas’ betrayal and death (Acts 1:21–26). He had been with Jesus from the beginning of His ministry, from His baptism by John to His resurrection, making him a faithful and consistent witness to Christ’s life and teaching. After prayer and the casting of lots, Matthias was selected, emphasising the community’s desire to follow God’s guidance rather than human preference. Though Scripture records little more about his ministry, Matthias represents quiet faithfulness, readiness to serve, and the importance of steady discipleship behind the scenes.
